Our Story
At Salumi, we believe great food brings people together.
Located in the heart of Plymouth, just a short walk from Theatre Royal Plymouth and directly opposite Plymouth Arena, Salumi is a relaxed neighbourhood restaurant built around seasonal food, warm hospitality and memorable experiences.
Founded by local Plymouth boy Dave and his Australian wife, Chantel, Salumi grew from a shared love of food, hospitality and creating places people genuinely enjoy spending time in. After more than 15 years of running independent businesses together — including The Bow Deli — we wanted Salumi to feel relaxed, welcoming and centred around really good food.
Our menus change regularly, shaped by the seasons and inspired by the ingredients we love to cook with. Whether you’re joining us for a pre-theatre dinner, drinks before an event, a celebration with friends or simply a great meal out, we want every visit to feel memorable for all the right reasons.
Over the years, Salumi has become part of countless birthdays, date nights, family celebrations and pre-show traditions — and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way.

Jake.
Heading up the kitchen is Jake. Jake has been on quite a journey with us, starting out as a Chef de Partie over two and half years ago and has since quickly risen to take over the reins as Head Chef. Jake has an ethos of simple food, cooked well, which matches Dave’s vision for both restaurants, meaning the pair quickly formed an formidable culinary team.

Dave’s cooking background has always been in fine dining, where he achieved numerous awards of Best Chef, Best Restaurant and mentions in industry guidebooks and national newspapers for much of his head chef career before teaming up with his Australian wife, Chantel, to bring that level of food into a much more relaxed environment.
Chef Dave has a passion for flavour and it really shows in his food but he has a special interest in Asian flavours having travelled there for inspiration. He has managed to incorporate an Asian edge to some of his modern and more traditional British dishes on the menu which only adds to the uniqueness of his restaurants.
Our History
Before Salumi, this corner was home to the Brunel Hotel, a Victorian landmark overlooking Millbay Docks and Station. The hotel was destroyed during the Plymouth Blitz, leaving the gap that eventually became our beer garden. Today’s building also incorporates part of the old Greyhound pub, dating from around 1857, meaning that part of Plymouth’s historic pub scene still form part of Salumi today. A history we are proud to be a part of!
